This is a unique position that uses the combination of graphic design experience with Adobe in a print environment and organizational skills with a mindset for teamwork and collaboration!
In our organization, we publish thousands of pages of journalism content and advertising in newspapers, magazines and digital editions. The Production team is a business critical step in the publishing process, with a team of Graphic Designers to build ads and prepare layout. This Production Coordinator role reports to the Production Director, helping to plan each issue, working with editorial and advertising teams to create the combination into each newspaper and magazine. Each issue is like a puzzle, solved through the unique combination of design skills and critical thinking.
This is a deadline-driven role for someone who likes to plan and track progress. It requires agility as the unique combination of content and advertising is always a balancing act. In this role, your colleagues across the company are your customers, which means the successful candidate will combine the design knowledge with their passion for supporting others.

Job Purpose
This role is an individual contributor who is part of a collaborative, cross-functional team. In this role, reporting directly to the Production Director, the primary responsibility is to oversee the production process of specific principal publications at GFM. The Production & Design Coordinator will be responsible for managing schedules, coordinating with internal teams and external vendors, and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality publications to our audience. This role requires excellent communication skills, strong project management abilities, and a passion for ensuring the smooth execution of publishing projects from start to finish.
Duties and responsibilities
• Plan principal publications, considering their individual needs in the most efficient and cost-effective layout possible, keeping in mind the ad to editorial ratios we require at GFM.
• Coordinating with editors, writers, designers, and advertising coordinators to ensure timely completion publications based on yearly print schedule.
• Collaborate with editorial and design teams to review content, layouts, and proofs, providing feedback and ensuring adherence to brand standards, publication guidelines, and quality standards.
• Produce final pages and prepress preparation, to ensure accurate and timely delivery of print-ready files to print vendors.
• Flow classified pages and ensure all correct elements are included based on the publication's specific needs.
• Expertise in print production processes and specifications, including knowledge of color management, image resolution, and file formats, with the ability to prepare print-ready files and collaborate effectively with print vendors.
• Embrace and adapt to new technologies.
Qualifications
• Experience and training in graphic design with knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite in a Mac environment. Publishing experience in a print environment is an asset, along with any prior experience in a similar project management or service support role.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners, and communicate clearly and professionally in written and verbal formats.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work independently in a remote environment with minimal supervision, while also contributing to a collaborative team environment.
