Glacier FarmMedia (“GFM”) is a dynamic company in the Canadian agriculture industry that connects with farmers through a variety of regional and specialty media franchises, a listings marketplace for the sale of farm equipment, leading industry events like Ag in Motion and Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show and customized offerings for Weather and Market analysis and insights.
With award winning journalism publications that serve the content needs of farmers and rural Canadians in 6 provinces (Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and Northern BC), we offer a chance to be a remote journalist, based at home, working with an integrated newsroom of colleagues, in a professional environment committed to reporting the news and uncovering why it matters to our audience.
We are seeking a full-time Associate Editor, Digital who is committed to connecting with our farm audience and engaging with them through content on all media channels (web, video, audio and social). This position is hiring for a new journalist to join our team for our growing digital needs, working alongside others who perform this function on an established team.
This role will report to the Senior Editor, News and Markets. Although this role will be largely digital focused, our newsroom plans content on a holistic basis, considering print, in person and video coverage opportunities. With a commitment to career growth through on-the-job development and formal training, the successful candidate will have exposure to modern content management systems, support for copy editing training, coaching and mentoring from journalists and the opportunity to perform reporting and editing functions to support meeting deadlines and serving the audience.
Specific job duties include:

Optimizing content for online audiences and posting it to Glacier FarmMedia's national network of online agricultural news brands. This can include scheduled material, evergreen content and breaking news at the national and provincial level.

Contributing to the editorial team’s knowledge, use and optimization of digital content for audience engagement and SEO publishing, helping to position GFM’s network of publications as content leader for farming and agriculture news in Canada, working with content from across newspapers, magazines and featured editorial content across all mediums to meet the needs of our audience.

Monitoring content uptake by our audience, analyzing content performance, and modifying digital content descriptions, tagging, headlines to optimize the ability for readers to connect with our content online.

Ensures compliance with content posting best practices.

Works collaboratively with members of the editorial team on technical direction and best practices for digital content optimization and digital audience engagement practices.
The GFM editorial team is continuously looking for new opportunities to support farmers’ needs for Canadian editorial content using new technologies while maintaining our commitment to quality journalism. Along with colleagues, this would be a participatory role in the innovation process, helping to brainstorming new ways to creatively tell stories to optimize audience engagement with our content. The curiosity to stay up to date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to ensure our digital channels are cutting-edge and relevant is an important characteristic for the successful candidate.
Qualifications

Post-secondary degree, diploma or training in journalism with a significant amount of relevant experience and demonstrated commitment to publish high-quality journalism content.

A commitment to fairness, accuracy and balance in content creation while also exhibiting a strong commitment to clean copy in accordance with Canadian Press Style guidelines.

Extremely organized, with a keen attention to detail, and a track record of meeting deadlines.

Experience with digital tools for web publishing, social media management, Google analytics or any content measurement software solutions are all assets.

Excellent communication skills with a desire to foster collaboration among cross-functional teams
